The Invitation

We find ourselves in a place, perhaps more lonely than ever before, fumbling through semi-connection and desperately longing for deep connection. My hope is to begin to create spaces and make room to experience deep connection, care, and compassion. This happens primarily through hosting quarterly seasonal retreats and sporadic creative day retreats (centered around things such as writing, art, making, etc). I am also available to facilitate a guided retreat/formation experience for your own group or team. Further descriptions and a schedule of current retreat offerings are listed below.

Current Retreats

  • Fall Open House

    Sept. 23rd 2-5pm

Come enjoy some stovepot chai, all the fall things (tasty treats), good conversation, and a chance to breathe and slow down a bit.

The make _ room candle collection will be out and for sale. Also feel free to stop by a little pop-up collection of refinished furniture and art I’ve been working on titled, The Art of Gathering.

Jess Bernardin (@olives.and.arrows) will be here showcasing some art and sharing a bit about some upcoming stuff she’s got going on. Come on over and stay awhile.

  • Dinner Retreat

    October 28th 4-9pm

This retreat will be a more simple, short and sweet, retreat.

We’re holding a lot these days. How would you like some room to gather with a few others in a peaceful setting for intentional, honest, life giving conversation and care.

We will make room to settle, to listen, to be heard and cared for, to sit with God, and to savor.

  • Summer Seasonal Retreat

    Sat. July 22 & 29 | 6-9pm

Retreat around grief & lament that will give us space to honor what is often a congested grief of many unprocessed hurts & losses we have been carrying over time.

Seasonal Retreats

The hope is to provide a small setting which allows for intentional times of both solitude (tucked away by yourself) and solidarity (tucked away with others) within the awareness and presence of God. I believe the rhythm and flow between these is extremely life giving and restorative, on a number of levels. Both left and right brain engagement, using the senses to engage beauty, explore creatively, and process thoughtfully with God and one another, does something healing and deeply restorative to us. I believe we desperately need these times.

“Many very generous Christians find themselves increasingly tired and dispirited not so much because the work is hard or the success slight, but because they feel isolated, unsupported, and left alone. People who say, ‘I wonder if anyone cares what I am doing. I wonder if my superior, my friends at home, or the people who sent me ever think about me, ever pray for me, every consider me a part of their lives,’ are in a real spiritual danger. We are able to do many hard things, tolerate many conflicts, overcome many obstacles, and persevere under many pressures, but when we no longer experience ourselves as part of a caring, supporting, praying community, we quickly lose faith. This is because faith in God’s compassionate presence can never be separated from experiencing God’s presence in the community to which we belong. The crisis in the lives of many caring Christians today are closely connected with deep feelings of not belonging. Without a sense of being sent by a caring community, a compassionate life cannot last long and quickly degenerates into a life marked by numbness and anger. This is not simply a psychological observation, but a theological truth, because apart from a vital relationship with a caring community a vital relationship with Christ is not possible.” (Nouwen, McNeill & Morrison)

Creative Retreats

Creative retreats invite God to lead us while we make room for engaging our right brains through certain specific actives such as writing, art, and different forms of “making.” Creative retreats also hold a well balanced combination of time gathered around the table together and time separate in solitude. They include a combination of spiritual direction practices aimed at awakening your heart to the movements of God in your life, as well as space to respond creatively. Creative retreats will generally be held from 10am-2pm on a Saturday and will include lunch.
