Make Room

Two words filled with intention and longing. Intention to set aside space and time. To deem something important. A longing marked by presence and anticipation of other… someone other… or something other. A longing that is void of answers and control. A space to sit, to be, to notice, to receive, and to respond.

To make room is a shift in the modus operandi of the day. It goes beyond the natural rhythms of the world we live in… full. Overflowing. No room. From our schedules to our stuff, this max capacity full life certainly impacts the way we know ourself, the way we show up in the world, our relationships with one another, and the relationship we have with God. It often takes up the space of sweetness and delight, honesty, freedom, and intimacy. The places we are truly and deeply seen and known.

Hospitality of Heart & Home

Hospitality is the open door to making room. Not the, have it all together, perfectly planned and executed type. Though, there is a real beauty at times to intention, it certainly does not require perfection. Sometimes, what we need most is the real presence of another, which is offered in hospitality. This can be spontaneous, or intentional, but does require some form of availability. Other times, there is something healing in the intentionality of a space like a warm fire, for our cold, lonely, and worn hearts, minds, bodies, and souls.

There are a couple areas of hospitality you are invited to open the door to here: hospitality of heart and home.

When we hear the word hospitality most of us think about welcoming someone into our home.

The hope here is to foster the hospitality of making room. Where is there space for you to be honest, to let go, to hurt, or to grieve? Is there space in your life for you to listen to what you’re actually feeling unattached from so much shame, quick judgement and the fear of familiar weakness? How do you make room to let your soul naturally breathe again… to stop and notice, to sing and savor and delight? What would it be like to make room for growing friendship and intimacy with the trinity- God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit? To be close, to be known, to have intimacy through real and personal experience and interaction with him.

These aren’t just things reserved for certain types of people in a certain time and season. The invitation is open, in your here and now, where you are. Sometimes we just need to make a little room. What’s on the other side? Well that’s what I love most about making room- I don’t exactly know. It’s unique and personal and free of parameters. But I do believe it will be healing, freeing and life giving, as we hold space for our hearts before the living God. I hope I can help to this end. Here we make room.
